when the selectors announced a team that was not too different from the one that had won in Australia in February/March this year. Given Sachin Tendulkar’s withdrawal, R. P. Singh’s return to the fold and Dinesh Karthik’s slide, the team make up was not too surprising. Some IPL performances were rewarded — notably Yusuf Pathan and Pragyan Ojha.
The team that has been selected has a balanced and youthful look to it. I will not be surprised if the team that takes to the park on June 10th (a week from now) against Pakistan is (in batting order):
Gautam Gambhir
Virender Sehwag
Robin Uthappa / Suresh Raina
Yuvraj Singh
Rohit Sharma
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Yusuf Pathan
Irfan Pathan
Piyush Chawla / Pragyan Ojha
Sreesanth / Praveen Kumar / R. P. Singh
Ishant Sharma
On current form, this is, in my view, a very strong team. The opening combination is a winning combination.

Veteran Sanath Jayasuriya has been recalled to SriLanka's one-day squad for the Asia Cup in June.
Jayasuriya, 38, was dropped for Sri Lanka's West Indies series in April after a lean run that included a highest score of 41 in his previous 20 innings.
However, the opening batsman won his place back in the team after smashing 114 from 48 balls for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, an innings that included 11 sixes and nine fours.
Opener Upul Tharanga was axed to make room for Jayasuriya, who will open the batting with Mahela Udawatte, who made his debut in the West Indies.
Sri Lanka also included spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who was rested for the West Indies tour.
All-rounder Farveez Maharoof and fast bowler Dilhara Fernando returned to the squad in place of pace bowlers Thilan Thushara and Ishara Amarasinghe.
The six-nation Asia Cup will be played in Pakistan from June 24 to July 6.

LAHORE: United Arab Emirates have named their 15-member squads for the Asia Cup in Pakistan, which gets underway next month. Saqib Ali will lead the UAE side, who are coming off a disappointing campaign in the ICC Intercontinental Cup, managing just one win in seven matches. Saqib was the only one to play all seven games, and he was the team’s leading run-getter, with 690 runs at an average of 57.50. With 17 wickets each, medium-pacer Arshad Ali and left-arm spinner Khurram Khan were the top wicket-takers for the team, and will lead the attack in Pakistan. UAE are in Group A along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Hong Kong are grouped alongside India and Pakistan, and they didn’t have much success during a ten-day tour of Pakistan earlier this month, losing four of their five matches. Tabarak Dar, their captain and opener, scored an unbeaten century in the loss to Sheikhupura, and finished the tour as the top run-getter. Off-spinner Nadeem Ahmed was the leading wicket-taker, with eight scalps in four games.
UAE squad : Saqib Ali (captain), Fahad Alhashmi, Alawi Shukri, Aman Ali, Amjad Ali (wk), Amjad Javed, Arshad Ali, Indika Batuwitarachchi, Nizel Fernandes, Khurram Khan, Mohammad Tauqir, Salman Farooq, Shadeep Silva, Vikrant Shetty, Zahid Shah.
